Touch Best Practices

Hi, back again with another question,

So in watching this livestream on APL (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/335838259?t), it was stated that design best practices indicate that every touch analog needs a voice analog, in case the user is far away and can't tap the display.

However, implementing this for some touch events isn't the best UX for our skill. In some cases, the skill is expecting a couple touch inputs in a row, and it's clunky to have it wait one-by-one for a voice input, confirm, etc. If we break from this guideline, is that an issue for this contest?

Best,
Narek

Hi! From a rules standpoint, you don't necessarily have to follow best practices as long as your skill passes certification (and complies with the other rules). From a judging standpoint, one of the criteria is:

    Quality of the User Experience
Including the visual design, whether it performs as expected, works well across device types, and more.

For the purposes of scoring well there, I would recommend thinking through the experience. You mentioned the best practice suggestion might be a worse user experience for your particular skill. I would suggest having friends test it out without any prompting. See if they can follow along and go with what seems to work best for your skill in a natural environment.

    Hope this helps!
    Stef
